About
Dr Miriam Burke brings a community perspective to placemaking, shaped by years navigating relationships with institutions, funders, and the shifting social fabric of place. Her PhD in Cultural Geography grounds her understanding of how places, and the people and histories that shape them, are always in flux. As COO of London Development Trust, she worked closely with public sector partners on community-led delivery and growth.
Miriam is currently CEO at East London Waterworks Park, a community-led environmental charity in Waltham Forest, East London; and her independent research and advocacy work with Homing Practices focuses on translating between community knowledge and institutional systems.
She joined Public Practice's board in 2026.
