About
Katie is an architect specialising in people-led design. She combines her architectural expertise with her understanding of community-led housing and co-production, enabling client groups to design and develop homes and spaces. Her projects include self-build move-on accommodation, co-housing on tricky urban sites, and developing a Land Trust-led affordable housing scheme on a rural exception site.
Prior to becoming an Associate, she was the lead architect and project board member on the Meanwhile in Oxfordshire programme, which brought empty buildings back into use for local communities and enterprises.

Brighton & Hove City Council
As a Senior Urban Design Officer, Katie's time was split between Planning Policy and Development Management. Within Development Management, she provided urban design advice on major and minor applications to elevate design quality in accordance with policy. Her advice included formal and informal comments, verbal drop-ins, design workshops with applicants, and complementing in-house advice with independent design review panels.
Within Planning Policy, she contributed to the development of their policy, particularly around urban design, placemaking, and energy efficiency of historic buildings. This included writing a Planning Advisory Note, providing design input on their City Plan review and Supplementary Plan Documents for area masterplans, and preparing for planning reform such as design coding. Part of her role included delivering a training program to officers to increase design confidence and exploring new ways to elevate the quality of design and place in Brighton and Hove through the development management process.
