About the role
The Mayor's Infrastructure Coordination Service (ICS) is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary team that drives better collaboration in the planning and delivery of London's utility infrastructure, operating four service lines: the Streets Service, the SuDS through Streetworks Market, the Development Service and the Planning Service. The Greater London Authority is recruiting a Senior Technical Project Officer to join the Streets Service on an 18-month fixed-term contract (Grade 9, £58,217), with potential to extend if further funding becomes available.
The role works closely with partners across industry to promote the dig once approach to streetworks – where utilities, supply chains and highway authorities reduce disruption across London by working together and using innovative construction techniques and technologies. The postholder will unpick delivery challenges to that approach and develop best practice so that collaboration becomes business as usual, on topics such as mains rehabilitation programmes, streetwork and network management, repurposing abandoned assets, energy transition and public realm.
- Managing technical projects and processes for the ICS, acting as the interface with technical stakeholders to secure delivery objectives and resolve technical barriers.
- Building and maintaining partnerships, managing occasionally conflicting stakeholder needs and persuading parties to change internal practices to drive long-term change in ways of working.
- Applying and improving supporting digital tools, and gathering and analysing data to monitor and evaluate ICS activities.
- Providing advice on infrastructure coordination issues to the Mayor and other senior leaders.
- Researching emerging areas, exploring the technical feasibility of solutions, and keeping up to date with regulatory, legislative, technical and policy changes in the infrastructure field.
About you
The Greater London Authority is looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Technical expertise on issues related to the water and streetworks sectors and surface water flooding, with substantial experience relating to construction, streetworks, utilities, development, capital delivery or similar.
- Excellent written and oral skills and a track record of successful stakeholder communications, including producing effective visuals.
- The ability to use a range of office and data-related software and digital tools to an advanced level.
- A degree or work experience in an engineering field, with a preference for civil engineers.
- Strong programme and project management skills with evidence of delivery to time and budget; ideally, experience of infrastructure policy or projects and familiarity with the GLA's priorities in this space.
- A problem-solving mindset, applying analytical and creative thinking to address blockers and challenge the status quo. The GLA will also consider candidates with a relevant background who can pick up new technical knowledge quickly.
The GLA welcomes applications from candidates seeking part-time work, as this role is open to job share. The role is hybrid, based at Union Street SE1, with a minimum of one day a week in the office. The role does not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship for external candidates.
How to apply
