Principal Urban Design Officer
About
Nick is an experienced architect specialising in residential design. With over twenty years in the field, he has a strong belief in collaborative working and a pragmatic, team-based approach to design. His expertise includes masterplanning, urban design, and architectural design for major schemes, particularly in estate renewal and urban regeneration projects. Many of these projects required a strategic approach and extensive resident engagement to develop the project brief.
Nick has a keen interest in historic buildings and structures, leading him to establish his own practice focused on smaller heritage buildings.
Autumn Cohort 2023
Uttlesford District Council
As part of our Autumn Cohort 2023, he worked across two teams during her placement at Uttlesford District Council. With the Development Management team, he contributed to preparing a district-wide Design Code, adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) in August, and helped establish the Uttlesford Quality Review Panel, which launched earlier this year. Nick provided design commentary on major and complex applications, both at the pre and post-application stages. In addition to his work with Development Management, he collaborated with the Planning Policy team on the emerging Local Plan, which recently went out for consultation at the Regulation 19 stage, ahead of examination by the Planning Inspectorate.
Nick worked with the Local Plan team focused on reviewing design policies and revising site allocation masterplans in response to the Regulation 18 consultation.
