Recruit experienced placemaking professionals with the Associate Programme. Learn about how to apply and who we work with.

A programme to help public sector organisations recruit mid-career level placemaking professionals. Watch the video below to see a case study of our impact at Epping Forest District Council and Harlow & Gilston Garden Town.

We recruit talented, motivated, and experienced placemaking professionals – Associates – with diverse skills and backgrounds. We take the time to understand your team's needs and skills gaps, and match you with the best Associates for the role. Start by submitting an Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the role you would like to recruit for.

We recruit Associates for public sector organisations in all regions of England including local or city authorities, combined authorities, development corporations or publicly-led delivery vehicles, hospitals, and more. Authorities are welcome to submit an Expression of Interest for more than one role. You must be able to have an Associate's contract start in the first week of April or October.

There are several ways that Authorities fund a Public Practice Associate, which could include reallocating existing revenue budget. For example, it could be possible to use budgeted funds from a vacant post to create a new position. Placements can also be funded from outside established core revenue budgets in the form of increased income, grant funding, or insourcing services previously contracted externally. For other sources of funding available to local authorities, take a look at our ongoing Authority Funding Tracker.

We offer a cost-effective route for Authorities to attract and recruit high-quality placemaking professionals to bring in additional expertise. As a not-for-profit, our placements are an affordable alternative to recruiting through private agencies. Our L&D Course helps prepare Associates for working within local government. In addition, if you choose to keep an Associate on beyond the end of their placement we do not charge a retention fee.

Applications are now open for job placements starting in April 2024. Submit an Expression of Interest by Thursday 30 November.

If you are working with us for the very first time, book a call with our Partnerships Manager to discuss your recruitment needs.

Submit an Expression of Interest. Fill in the form with the job description of the role you would like to hire.

Join our unique online Assessment Day where we use innovative recruitment processes to find the new cohort of Associates. You’ll meet an inspiring group of candidates who would have been out of reach with traditional recruitment methods.

Meet your matched candidate. If we are able to propose a match for your role, you will be required to meet the candidate directly before confirming your match.

Make an offer and send a contract to your Associate. Once the match is confirmed, you will be responsible for making formal offers and starting your Authority's standard onboarding process to ensure the Associate starts in post in time for the start of the programme.
