Autumn Cohort 2024
Luton Borough Council
During his placement at Luton, which spanned eight months at the time of writing, Robert worked on a broad range of cases and provided design guidance for several major developments within Luton Town Centre. He supported improvements to the department’s assessment and allocation of planning fees, presented to committee on multiple occasions, and assessed the policy and planning implications of proposed masterplan developments.
Over time, his role expanded to include technical design review, acting as a design guardian on key schemes, and advising on listed building applications and heritage-sensitive development. Within the planning team, he was primarily assigned to major applications but also supported minor cases and participated in design review sessions with junior colleagues, offering guidance from a design and non-planning perspective.
