About
Jess is a British-born Chinese architect specialising in community co-designed projects and integrating social and environmental sustainability into her work. She is an active mentor for organisations such as Women in Architecture, Blueprint For All, and The Girls' Network, where she focuses on supporting underrepresented young women in the construction industry.
She has been the project architect on residential and community projects for practices including Studio Gil and Hawkins\Brown. Her experience spans large-scale private housing developments to a social housing scheme for the London Borough of Enfield as part of the wider Joyce and Snell’s state regeneration.
Prior to joining the Autumn Cohort 2023, she completed the Wolves Lane project in Haringey, which involved the construction of four new buildings for community infrastructure, growing facilities, and teaching spaces. This project, funded by the GLA Good Growth Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund, showcased community-led development using sustainable materials and construction methods. "
Autumn Cohort 2023
London Borough of Croydon
As part of our Autumn Cohort 2023, she worked at Croydon Council within the Regeneration Team, project managing the Croydon Town Centre Regeneration Strategy (CTCRS) and supporting the director on the Whitgift Indemnity and Land Transfer Agreement (ILTA) Remedy programme.
Her role in the CTCRS involved overseeing emerging guidance documents and contributing to the development, promotion, delivery, and review of an extensive engagement strategy, working closely with the Croydon Urban Room. On the ILTA Remedy, she defined briefs for a range of activities, from creative projects to addressing safety and cleanliness concerns.
Both roles required close collaboration with colleagues across departments, the project team, facilitators, the local community, and strategic partners to ensure alignment with the council's regeneration goals
