About

Beatrice has nearly two decades experience practising architecture in the UK and abroad, most of which has been as a senior-level architect, demonstrating particular skills when managing complex programmes and critical paths. She has two masters in architecture and structural/civil engineering and thrives working in innovative interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and working collaboratively to solve complex problems.

Before joining the Spring Cohort 2024, she worked with private clients, social enterprises, community groups, corporate clients and not‐for‐profits as a senior architect, project manager and builder, with a wide variety of site experience and voluntary work that reflects her values and desire to learn continuously. Beatrice has a long-established commitment to and comprehensive understanding of sustainable and carbon-neutral design strategies, drawing on “cradle to cradle” principles for the responsible use of materials and resources. She is also an accredited Passive House Designer with broad experience in retrofit and renovation projects.

Spring Cohort 2024

Bristol City Council

Beatrice was a Sustainability Coordinator in the Built Environment Team within the Sustainable Cities & Climate Change Service (SCCCS) at Bristol City Council (BCC). The team held a statutory role as consultees for major planning applications, advising on how well applicants had addressed policy on climate change, sustainable energy, and sustainable construction. Through fortnightly ‘sustainability surgeries’, they supported planners with minor applications and provided informal training.

Beatrice helped foster relationships with neighbouring local authorities, stakeholders, and colleagues within BCC—for example, in relation to heat networks, which Bristol was pioneering in the UK. She was also part of the heat pump working group, which linked members of SCCCS with those at BCC managing properties with heat pumps, new programmes installing them, and so on.

With the new Local Plan expected to be adopted in 2025, Beatrice’s team was set to write the guidance covering SCCC policy. As well as inspiring applicants to be more ambitious, they aimed to clarify how to submit compliant schemes.
