Spring Cohort 2024
London Borough of Haringey
As part of our Spring Cohort 2024, Alice is working as a Built Environment Climate Change Officer at the London Borough of Haringey. As a Climate Change Officer in Haringey, Alice’s role was very diverse—ranging from reviewing planning applications’ energy and sustainability design, delivering carbon literacy training, and managing a carbon community fund to writing an annual carbon report.
Her work during the placement provided her with a meaningful framework to understand the net zero targets, as well as the challenges ahead. She saw how local councils played effective and vital roles in promoting sustainability through the planning system, encouraging zero-carbon developments to go beyond legislation and planning policies, and supporting behaviour change.
It was inspiring for Alice to see how much local authorities had done to champion sustainability, even though the journey to net zero remained full of hurdles. In this context, it was uplifting for her to work with many creative colleagues in different roles and to witness their efforts to tackle climate change together.
