Ecology & Biodiversity

Our environment is at risk of a major ecological breakdown, which has implications for wildlife, their habitats, and our own wellbeing. Alongside efforts to tackle the climate emergency, Authorities are taking action on ecology and biodiversity, protecting and growing green and blue infrastructure, rewilding land to support wildlife and building natural flood defences. The Environment Act will enable Authorities to secure greater ecological gains through the planning system. They are also increasingly taking a landscape-led approach to masterplanning and designing new homes and settlements as a way of developing locally distinctive and sustainable communities.
