Job Location

  • 2 days in the office, increasing to 3 per week from October
  • at the offices in Brent Civic Centre
  • within the Neighbourhoods and Regeneration Directorate

Job Details

You will lead the Planning Policy Team in implementing and reviewing our award-winning Local Plan, adopted in 2022, to support Brent’s continued sustainable growth agenda.

The team is recognised and well-regarded for their role in the delivery of the Council’s focus on place-making and a better Brent. You will continue its record of sustained delivery of planning policy documents in what will be a changing and challenging London and national policy and legislative context

This role includes the management of:

  • the production of the Local Plan and other Development Plan Documents, Supplementary Planning Documents and other guidance on time and to budget, as set out in the work programme and Local Development Scheme
  • the creation, delivery and maintenance of an empirical database of evidence for Brent to support the production of planning policy, other spatial planning projects
  • the provision of policy advice on site-specific proposals at the pre-application and application stage.

Role Reporting

  • you will have a team of up to five direct reports
  • you will be reporting directly to the Spatial and Transporation Planning Manager in the Planning and Development Services department

About You

You will be someone who has a passion for planning and can communicate the positive change it can bring.

You will have a record of delivery in planning policy, plans, and good development, as well as the ability to motivate and support your team to do the same. You will be outward-looking and able to work well with colleagues in planning and regeneration, as well as the wider Council, partners, residents, and those in West London and London.

You will have:

  • Substantial experience in managing resources related to spatial planning in a large, complex organisation
  • Comprehensive understanding of current issues & developments affecting planning, regeneration & local government
  • Successful delivery of Local Plan/DPD throughout all statutory stages
